We've discovered that trip prep is a big part of the journey...had we (especially Evie and I who are touring amateurs) known how much was involved in getting ourselves and our bikes ready, we would have started much sooner.
Alas...the scenic route.
We both bought racks and panniers to carry our gear on our little race bikes, but recently discovered our posh race bikes are really not so posh for touring. Our carbon forks and seat posts cannot accommodate such weight nor is it even possible to attach a rack to our front forks. Enter ... sweet Caley ... to the rescue. Within minutes of both Evie and my pleas, Caley rounded up 2 BOBs for us, one from her brother and another from a good friend. For those unfamiliar with bicycle touring, BOBs are the cool little trailers you'll see treckers pulling behind their bikes. The BOBs are hitched to the rear wheel skewer and roll on one wheel. SO, Ev and I will be 3-wheelin it while Caley sports the quadruple pannier setup to carry her gear.
It's been incredible already to experience that this trip is not just about the 3 of us girls. So many others have gotten excited with us and contributed their gear, bike parts, tuning expertise, route beta, meals, cheers, and prayers.
Before we've even set out, we've had to take some detours, but have seen God work through our community of friends and family to make this route scenic from the beginning.
This sounds wonderful, Becky! Best to you girls! I hope to keep up with you all through the blog. Great idea!
